- 2–3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (plus more for rolling)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- Jam, Nutella, or pastry cream (optional filling)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Nonstick spray or butter (for greasing muffin tin)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a muffin tin.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and brush with melted butter.
- Sprinkle with granulated sugar and cinnamon if desired.
- Spread a thin layer of jam or Nutella if using a filling.
- Roll dough tightly into a log, then slice it lengthwise to expose layers.
- Twist each strip and coil into muffin cups, with layers facing upward.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
- Let cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar or roll in extra sugar while still warm.
Notes
- Use Nutella, jam, or sweetened cream cheese for a filled version.
- For savory cruffins, skip sugar and fill with cheese, herbs.
- Mini muffin pans work great for bite-sized versions—just reduce baking time.
- Best enjoyed fresh, but reheat in the oven to restore crisp texture.
- Freeze fully baked cruffins and reheat in oven straight from frozen.
