Description

Garlic Butter Honey BBQ Chicken Tacos are the ultimate fusion of sweet, smoky, and savory. Juicy chicken is coated in a rich garlic butter honey BBQ sauce and wrapped in soft tortillas with your favorite toppings. Perfect for Taco Tuesday or any night you need bold flavor fast!

Ingredients

For the chicken:

  • Boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • Salt and pepper
  • 12 tbsp olive oil

For the garlic butter honey BBQ sauce:

  • 34 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce (sweet, smoky, or spicy—your choice)

To serve:

  • Soft flour or corn tortillas (8 small)

Optional toppings:

  • Shredded cabbage or slaw mix
  • Avocado slices
  • Pickled red onions
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Lime wedges
  • Crumbled feta or cotija cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the chicken: Season chicken with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken until browned and cooked through (about 6–7 minutes per side). Let rest, then slice or shred.
  2. Make the sauce: In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté garlic until fragrant (about 1 minute). Stir in honey and BBQ sauce. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  3. Toss the chicken: Return the sliced/shredded chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the sticky sauce.
  4. Assemble tacos: Warm tortillas. Fill with saucy chicken and top with your favorite garnishes like slaw, avocado, or cheese.
  5. Serve: Finish with a squeeze of lime and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Spicy option: Stir in hot sauce or chopped chipotle in adobo for heat.
  • Low-carb version: Use lettuce wraps instead of tortillas.
  • Grilled twist: Grill the chicken instead of pan-searing for added smoky flavor.
  • Crunch factor: Add fried onions or crushed tortilla chips for texture.
  • Shortcuts: Use shredded rotisserie chicken for faster prep.
