Description

These Mozzarella-Stuffed Onion Rings with Garlic Butter are the ultimate indulgent snack—golden and crispy on the outside, gooey mozzarella in the center, and finished with a rich garlic butter drizzle. A crave-worthy twist on classic onion rings that’s perfect for parties or game day!

Ingredients

  • 2 large white or yellow onions
  • 810 mozzarella sticks or thick cheese slices
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning or chopped parsley (optional)
  • Oil for frying
  • For the Garlic Butter:
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

Instructions

  1. Slice onions into thick rings and separate. Pair rings of similar size to create “shells” for the cheese.

  2. Cut mozzarella pieces to fit inside each onion ring pair. Press the pairs together to enclose the cheese.

  3. Set up a breading station: flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and panko mixed with salt, pepper, and seasoning in the third.

  4. Dip each stuffed ring in flour, then egg, then panko. Press breadcrumbs on firmly.

  5. Freeze for 30 minutes to help the rings hold together.

  6. Heat oil in a skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry rings 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

  7. For the garlic butter, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant (about 1 minute).

  8. Drizzle garlic butter over the rings or serve on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Add cayenne or hot sauce to egg wash for a spicy kick.
  • Swap in smoked mozzarella, pepper jack, or cornflake coating for variety.
  • For a lighter version, bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15–20 minutes or air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes.
  • Great with marinara, ranch, or chipotle mayo dipping sauces.
