Description

These Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes combine juicy ground beef, sautéed onions and peppers, and melty provolone cheese in one skillet for a cheesy, savory mash-up of two comfort food favorites. Served on toasted buns, this quick and satisfying recipe is perfect for weeknights, game day, or easy entertaining.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 6 slices provolone cheese (or 1 1/2 cups shredded)
  • 46 hoagie rolls, hamburger buns, or sandwich rolls
  • Butter or oil (for toasting buns)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions and bell peppers for 5 minutes, until softened.
  2. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess grease.
  4. Stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup (if using). Simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Reduce heat and add provolone. Stir gently until melted and combined.
  6. Toast buns in a skillet with butter or oil until golden.
  7. Spoon meat mixture onto toasted buns and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Add mushrooms or cream cheese for extra richness.
  • For low-carb, serve over roasted vegetables or in lettuce wraps.
  • Mozzarella, cheddar, or white American cheese also work well.
  • Double the recipe and freeze half for future meals.
