Description

These Sugar Doughnut Balls That Melt in Your Mouth are the ultimate bite-sized indulgence—crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, and coated in sweet granulated sugar. They’re quick to make, yeast-free, and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an anytime treat that brings cozy, nostalgic comfort in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying (canola, vegetable, or peanut oil)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Heat frying oil in a deep pot to 350°F.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

  3. In another bowl, beat egg with milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.

  4. Add wet ingredients to dry and mix just until combined—do not overmix.

  5. Using a small scoop or spoon, carefully drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil.

  6. Fry 2–3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden and puffed.

  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  8. While still warm, roll doughnut balls in granulated sugar until fully coated.

  9. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Mix cinnamon into the sugar for cinnamon-sugar doughnut balls.
  • Add lemon zest to the batter and sugar for a citrusy twist.
  • Fill with jam, Nutella, or cream using a piping bag after frying.
  • Dust with powdered sugar instead of granulated sugar for a softer finish.
  • Drizzle with glaze or melted chocolate for extra decadence.
